About

My life has been filled with many experiences and lots of them have been fun, but some have also had a sensitive side effect.  Dental healthcare is really a big part of our overall health and it seems that we neglect it a lot of the time.  I personally think this is one of the most overlooked areas in healthcare and the issues of it are well seen in the emergency situations that people visit the dentist in.  One thing that is a telltale sign of dental neglect or other major issues is the sensitivity of teeth.  Now not all experiences with this are bad, but in some cases, it can be a sign of worse things going on and that you need to see the dentist right away.  So I want to go over my experiences with tooth sensitivity and what it meant for me.

One of the areas that ended up causing my first experience with sensitive teeth was on vacation in Canada.  I first experienced this terrible feeling due to a true catastrophe that happened in my life.  I was actually on a canoe trip for fishing with friends in Canada.  It was for about two weeks or a little more and we were literally outside of cell range at the time and completely alone in the wild.  The trip was wonderful but on day one we were already 20 miles into a wilderness and dropped off about 100 miles from where we were going to be picked up in two weeks.  That meant we were all alone with no one within hundreds of miles of us in the wilderness.

We packed all the gear we would need and that included dental care for all of us.  But the unexpected happened and on day one a tornado came through our camp while we were all out fishing.  We lost the vast majority of our gear due to the tornado destroying our camping and carrying off most of our things.  Luckily our food was safe, but we ended up losing all of our dental and healthcare items.  This meant no brushing of teeth and also no medical gear for two weeks.  What happened was that due to this and also the fact that the bag with all of our vitamins and truly healthy food was lost we were missing good dental healthcare

At the end of the two weeks in the wild, my teeth became very sensitive.  THey flat out hurt. This was due to a lack of nutrition and also a lack of all dental products.  What I learned was that when I got back I needed to get vitamins and toothpaste in my mouth fast.  It was a painful experience and I learned to never let that happen again.

My next sensitive tooth issue was with Tooth Whitening strips. The strips were to help my teeth get more bright for a fancy situation.  I used the strips and within two days my teeth became super sensitive and they hurt all the time. Coldwater and hot food made my mouth flat out hurt.  I knew that this was actually a side effect of the strips and the package said it did not injure my teeth. But instead of hurting my teeth it only hurt me. So sensitivity was not a bad thing, but as a trade-off, it was not worth my pain to have a better smile. Know not all sensitivity is bad, but it may be a sign of worse things. So be careful and see your healthcare provider if your teeth are sensitive to know the difference.
